Bill peacefully passed away at age 80 on May 8, 2007 at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley after a six-month illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wyn; his daughter, Maile and her husband, Dennis; his son, Bill and his wife, Lynette; his sister, Nancy Sugars; six granchildren; one great-grandson; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was involved in the lives of many people through the years and they will miss his enthusiasm, generosity, helpfulness, loyalty, optimism, and his great love of life. His numerous friends will attest to his enjoyment of organizing and attending many social functions.
Born in Sacramento, Bill grew up in Berkeley. He attended Garfield Junior High and then went on to Berkeley High School. At both schools, he was on the track team and was student body and class president. At the University of California, he was president and house manager of Phi Gamma Delta.

He was also a member of Skull & Keys. He was a lifelong supporter of Cal Athletics and was involved in many activities relating to the University.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Alumni House on the University campus on June 10 from 2-4 PM. Family and friends are welcome
